Tricount vs Kittysplit

Two European expense splitters built on the same idea: no account, just a link. They still feel different. Here's how.

If you've decided you don't want yet another login, the shortlist usually narrows to two: Tricount (the Bunq-owned, Belgium-built option with strong roots across the EU) and Kittysplit (the original no-signup option, German-built, the spiritual ancestor of the entire category). Both ship the friction-free promise; both have very different feel and feature footprints.

The short version: Tricount has more features and a full mobile app, Kittysplit is web-first with a recently-launched mobile app but holds some basics (currency conversion, ads-removal) behind a one-time per-group €3 'Super Kitty' upgrade. Tricount feels like an established app; Kittysplit feels like a tool. Both work, but they appeal to different sensibilities.

Pick Tricount if
Pick Tricount if you want a polished mobile app, no upsell mid-trip, and Bunq's banking integration (or don't mind it being there).
Pick Kittysplit if
Pick Kittysplit if you really only need the basics (one currency, no recurring, no receipt OCR) and you don't mind a €3 unlock for multi-currency. The web-first feel is part of its appeal.
Pick neither if
Skip both if you want no-signup AND modern features (multi-currency free, AI receipts, recurring, payment links). That gap is exactly why we built EvenRound.

The third option

Tricount and Kittysplit are the two best-known no-signup options for a reason - both prove that the model works. They diverge on polish vs minimalism. EvenRound was built to extend the model with the features the others hold back (free multi-currency, AI receipt scanning, recurring expenses, payment links). See /compare/tricount or /compare/kittysplit for the per-product comparison.
