How much should I tip in the UK?
10–12.5% is standard for table service. Many UK restaurants now add a 12.5% "optional service" charge automatically; you can ask for it to be removed if the service was poor.
How much should I tip in the US?
18–20% is standard for sit-down restaurants, with 15% being the lower end of acceptable. Bartenders typically get $1–$2 per drink, or 15–20% if running a tab.
Should service charge be split equally even if people ordered different amounts?
Yes — service charge is the cost of being served at a table, not a per-item charge. It splits equally even when the meals don't.
What if some people only had starters?
The honest answer is to itemise. EvenRound's receipt scan extracts each line item; you tap people next to each line to assign. Or have the lighter eaters pay their own line and split the remainder equally.
