How the estimate is built

Per-day costs are aggregate averages from 2024–2026 European travel data, split into accommodation, food, activities, and local transport. Travel is a flat per-person return cost based on trip type and tier (city break with budget travel ≈ low-cost flight; ski premium ≈ business-class to Alps). For festivals, the headline ticket is rolled in as a flat cost; activities go to zero since the festival is the activity.

Most groups overshoot by 10–20% once the trip is actually booked — extra dinners, one big activity day, taxi splits instead of public transport. Use this for planning, not for billing. The real number lives in your EvenRound group once expenses start landing.

Common questions

How accurate is this?

Within ~15% for typical destinations. For high-cost-of-living cities (Zurich, Reykjavik, Tokyo) adjust up by 20–30%. For low-cost destinations (Eastern Europe, Southeast Asia outside the major hubs) you can usually halve the budget tier.

Does it factor in flight prices changing through the year?

No — travel is a single flat number per tier. Peak season (Christmas, July/August, school half-terms) can easily double the travel figure. Check Skyscanner or Trainline for actuals.

Can I save this estimate?

Not on the tool page — but creating a group in EvenRound takes 10 seconds, and you can add the budget as the group description. Then track real expenses against the estimate as the trip happens.

What if some people are on tighter budgets than others?

Use the "mid-range" tier for the group baseline and let people opt in or out of premium extras. Our guide on splitting holidays with mixed budgets covers the pattern in detail.
