Splitting expenses on a Split trip - what to budget, how to settle up
Last updated by The EvenRound team.
Diocletian's Palace, ferry day to Hvar, and rented sailboat charters for the brave.
Split is Dubrovnik's larger, livelier cousin: more bars, lower prices, and the entire ferry network of central Croatia leaves from its harbour. Most group trips here are split between Old Town walking days and island-hopping ferry days. The expense surprises are the boat charters (€600–€1500/day for skipper-included) and the konoba lunches on small islands where the meal arrives on a single bill for €200+.
Realistic per-person daily budget
Local currency: Euro (EUR)
| Category | Per person, per day | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Accommodation | €50–€95 | Old Town apartment for 4–6; Marjan/Bačvice area runs cheaper at €35–€60 per person. |
| Food and drinks | €35–€55 | Konoba dinner €25–€35, peka lunch (booked ahead) €25 per person, špar grilled fish €18–€30. |
| Transport | €8–€20 | Local bus €1.50–€2. Hvar fast ferry €15–€20 each way. Sailboat charter €100–€200 per person per day. |
| Activities and entrances | €10–€30 | Diocletian cellar €8, Marjan hike free, sea-kayak Marjan €30, Krka day trip €40. |

Best for groups of …
Best for groups of 6–10. Sailboat charters are sweet at 6–8 (1 cabin per couple); ferry day trips scale fine at 10.
Currency notes
Eurozone. Same as Dubrovnik post-2023. Tipping 10% at sit-down. Cash useful for konobas on small islands without card terminals - €30–€50 per person in cash for an island day is plenty.
Split is the group-trip city where boat days happen. Log the charter as a single equal expense and let everything else net out at the harbour bar.
